BOUNTIFUL BLESSINGS: CELEBRATING NAWAKHANI & NAWAI WITH JOY AND GRATITUDE

prem_navai November 16, 2024: navakhani_2024 The Nawakhani and Nawai celebrations at Khrist Premalaya Regional Theologate were marked with great enthusiasm and joy. Here are a few glimpses into the significance and events of the day.

This festival, primarily celebrated by agrarian communities, holds a special place among India’s tribal groups, including the Oraon, Munda, Barela, Bhil, and Santhal tribes. The terms Nawakhani and Nawai are derived from two words: Nawa (new) and Khani (to eat), symbolizing the consumption of the season’s first grain. Deeply rooted in tribal traditions, this festival reflects gratitude for the first harvest. Historically, tribal leaders and village elders led rituals to honor nature, ancestors, and community spirits, thanking them for a bountiful harvest. This ancient celebration has been passed down for centuries as a way of expressing communal thanksgiving for agricultural prosperity.

The festivities commenced on the evening of November 15, with the tribal brothers organizing singing practices, decorations, and preparations for the Holy Eucharist. On November 16, the celebration began with morning prayer, followed by a gathering at the seminary portico. Brother Suman Khalkho warmly welcomed everyone and highlighted the importance of the Nawakhani and Nawai festival as a day of gratitude for the new harvest.

The congregation, led by a vibrant tribal dance procession, moved towards the church for the Holy Eucharist. The Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Tobias Minj (Procurator) and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. France Scaria (Rector), Rev. Fr. Antony Akkanath (Director of KPIT), Rev. Fr. Sudhan, and Rev. Fr. Jonson B. Maria. The main celebrant delivered an inspiring homily, emphasizing the need to "strive first for the kingdom of God and His righteousness," as stated in Matthew 6:33. He reminded the faithful to prioritize spiritual righteousness over worldly concerns and to place unwavering trust in God’s providence.

The second half of the day was enlivened by a cultural program organized by the tribal brothers. Traditional dances from the Chotanagpur and Madhya Pradesh regions were performed, captivating everyone with their vibrancy and cultural richness. The celebrations concluded with a traditional lunch. As part of the tribal tradition, the brothers washed the hands of the priests, sisters, and fellow brothers before serving the meal. Videos showcasing tribal traditions played in the background, adding a nostalgic touch. The event ended on a jubilant note with a final round of tribal dances. The Nawakhani and Nawai celebration at Khrist Premalaya Regional Theologate was a beautiful expression of gratitude, unity, and cultural pride, leaving lasting memories for all who participated.

FAREWELL TO THOSE FARED WELL

tamil_farewell November 02, 2024: farewell_2024 It is rightly said, "Parting and departing is a part of life." In our life journey, we cannot do away with making friendships and relationships because our existence here on earth is knit together in a web of relationships. It is a bittersweet experience when we depart from one place to another, leaving behind our friends and carrying only cherished memories. Such a kind of emotional atmosphere was generated at Khrist Premalaya as we bid farewell to the outgoing batch 2021-2024 on November 02, 2024.

The SAMAVARTAN program commenced with the divine invocation in the morning prayer. The thanksgiving Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Francis Scaria, the Rector, in which the entire community offered praise and thanksgiving to God for the wonders he has done in the lives of the outgoing brothers, and implored his steadfast accompaniment in their lives ahead. During the homily, Fr. Rector congratulated all the outgoing brothers and emphasized the importance of ongoing formation in priestly life. He further enlightened us with the insights of God's purpose in our lives.

Having received the divine blessings, we set out for the cultural program in our auditorium at 11:15 am. During the program, several brothers both individually and in groups performed various entertaining art forms and added colors to the occasion. Three of the outgoing brothers shared their enriching experiences of their life at KPRT and expressed their connectedness with the seminary. Rev. Fr. Antony Akkanath, the Vice Rector, in his address, emphasized the instability of life as it holds moments of both ups and downs. He also encouraged everyone, especially the outgoing brothers, to be decisive in their conduct when faced with difficulties and challenges in life. Then the brothers were felicitated by the staff and the community.

In addition, to enhance the joy and beauty of the event, the Golden Jubilarians Mr. Sebastian and Mrs. Bibiyana, who celebrated their fifty years of togetherness in marital bond, joined us in our celebration. It was worthy to acknowledge their dedicated service to our seminary for a long time in the past and to felicitate them on their Golden Jubilee as a token of gratitude. The smile on their faces was incredible and priceless. Having spent a few hours in sharing, listening, motivating, entertaining, and felicitating each other, the farewell day event thus came to an end with a sumptuous meal prepared with deep sentiments of love.

Overall, this SAMAVARTHAN program was instrumental in making memories of our beloved brothers and was a medium for sharing their treasured memories. We wish them the best of all that they are going to encounter on their journey ahead and pray for their well-being.

UNITY IN FELLOWSHIP: THE DEACONS' EXCURSION TO HYDERABAD

reegan-bro 31 October 2024: exscursion_hyderabad How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity (Psalm 133:1). Dear friends in Christ, unity is a gift that we can experience in many meaningful ways, and one of the most joyful ways is through shared activities and fellowship. It is with a heart full of gratitude that I share the highlights of this experience, cherished by the IV-year theologians of the 2021-2025 batch, during our memorable excursion to Hyderabad.

Our journey began with thanksgiving to God, whose presence accompanied us throughout our time together. We are deeply grateful to the Bishops of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the governing members of Khrist Premalaya Regional Theologate, and our seminary staff, who granted us the opportunity to bond and unwind as a group at least once in our four years of theological study. Special thanks are extended to Mr. Ambedkar Arumalla and his family, the elder brother of Bro. Thomas Arumalla Mastan, whose generosity and support added immensely to our experience.

Day 1: A Cinematic Experience at Ramoji Film City
Our excursion began at the renowned Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest film complex, covering a remarkable 1,666 acres. We were thrilled to explore iconic movie sets, including those of Bahubali and other well-known films. Witnessing the art of filmmaking firsthand provided us with a unique perspective, enriching both our understanding of media and our appreciation for this creative industry.

Day 2: Exploring the Heritage and Spirit of Hyderabad
The second day was filled with visits to some of Hyderabad and Secunderabad's most treasured landmarks. We began at Chowmohalla Palace, a symbol of Hyderabad's royal heritage, followed by Charminar, the city’s iconic structure. Our journey continued to the historic Golconda Fort, and we concluded the day with a visit to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and a mesmerizing laser show. Each destination deepened our connection to the cultural and historical richness of Hyderabad, leaving us with lasting memories.

As we returned to our seminary, our hearts were filled with joy and gratitude for the vibrant experiences we shared. Together, we are now even more prepared to carry these lessons of unity, fellowship, and joy to our future ministries as deacons, serving with a renewed spirit and a stronger bond as brothers in Christ.

Family members, priests, nuns, and honoured guests joined the KPRT community and the deacons’ families at St. Teresa Church, Ashta, for this blessed occasion.

The celebration began at 10:15 a.m., with Bro. Arvind and Bro. Suman, serving as MCs, warmly welcoming dignitaries and guests. The eight candidates, all in their fourth year, were symbolically presented with lighted candles by Fr. Rector and Fr. Vice Rector, signifying their entry into the diaconate and their commitment to the light of Christ.

Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Madathikunnel, Bishop of Khandwa, was the main celebrant of the Liturgy, The ceremony commenced with the incensing of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The congregation then processed into the church, setting a solemn tone for the sacred ceremony. In the church, Fr. Francis Scaria, the Rector, extended a warm welcome to Bishop Madathikunnel, honouring him with a traditional shawl. He also greeted the priests, nuns, and all gathered for this momentous celebration. Bishop Madathikunnel presided over the liturgy, with the choir’s harmonious hymns enhancing the prayerful and reverent atmosphere.

Following a deeply inspiring homily, the Bishop received each candidate’s vows of celibacy and obedience. In a solemn and consecratory act, he laid hands on each brother, blessing and ordaining them as deacons with the shared motto: “Loving God in Serving the Poor.” The new deacons then received their stoles, symbolizing their new office, along with the presentation of the Gospel, followed by the exchange of the kiss of peace.

After the Eucharistic celebration, a commemorative group photo was taken with the Bishop and attending priests, capturing the joy of the occasion. The celebration continued in the KPRT Seminary auditorium, where the newly ordained deacons, joined by the Bishop, clergy, religious guests, and family members, to cut a festive cake and felicitation. This was followed by a joyful lunch with heartfelt songs of thanksgiving, bringing the memorable day to a close.

FAITH IN MOTION: ACTION, REFLECTION, AND TRANSFORMATION IN VILLAGE MISSIONS

simon_ara-24 October 18, 2024: ara_2024 The Action-Reflection-Action (ARA) program provides a meaningful way of relating to and accepting people as they are. It allows us to connect deeply with individuals, understand their unique experiences, and share in their lives. Through ARA, we can glimpse the social, political, economic, and cultural aspects of the communities we serve, enriching our theoretical knowledge of social work with real-world understanding. Each year, we embark on this journey, and this year, we were sent to various dioceses, including Jabalpur, Khandwa, Jhabua, and Bhopal from September 28 to October 18, 2024. Each place offered us unique and unforgettable experiences.

Every village we visited and every family we prayed with had something special to offer. Their steadfast faith, rooted in prayer and trust in God, showed us that faith is not measured by numbers or outward expressions but by a personal, profound relationship with God that can withstand any trial. We were reminded that, as followers of Christ, we are called to be witnesses of His love, regardless of our own circumstances.

Our journey was filled with moments of grace, faith, and resilience. We met families who, despite facing numerous challenges, remained unwavering in their devotion. Through shared prayer, reflection, and Gospel discussions, we experienced the essential role of community in nurturing and sustaining faith. The people welcomed us warmly, eager to participate in prayer, and their strong faith was evident in every part of their lives.

As we returned to our daily lives, we carried with us the lessons of faith, hope, and love that the people had shown us. Their strength in adversity, joy amid struggle, and unshakable trust in God have deepened our own faith and strengthened our commitment to live out the Gospel. We are filled with gratitude for the lessons learned and the relationships formed. This experience has renewed our sense of purpose and given us a deeper appreciation for the resilience of Catholic faith, even in the most remote places.

The lessons and relationships from these experiences will continue to inspire us to live our faith with courage, joy, and perseverance, just as we witnessed in these remarkable communities.
